High School Retreat (08/29/2010)

It is almost time for school to start, and it is time be thinking of the annual high school retreat held at Living Waters Camp. This year's theme is "As iron sharpens iron" and isbased on Proverbs 27:17. Itis geared to help young people help each other live the Christian life. Our special guest speaker will be Pastor Peter Valji of the Cary Baptist Church.
The cost of the retreat is $20.00 and it covers all meals and activities. Permission slip and fee must be turned in by Wednesday, September 8th. (11th and 12th grade students wishing to drive their own vehicles must have parent's written permission listing those traveling withthem by Wednesday morning. Passengers need permission notes from parents as well.)
This event is for students grades 9-12. Students will depart from GHCA at the end of the school day on Wednesday and return at the end of the school day on Friday.Students will need to bring sleeping bags, towels, and all toiletries. No electronic games, iPods, MP3, etc. are allowed. Cell phones are restricted to emergency use only. The dress code is relaxed for the retreat: modest shorts/jeans and tee shirts, no bikni bathing suits, and above all appropriate clothes for weather and activities. Don't forget clothes for night activities. Pranks of any kind are strictly forbidden!
I look forward to retreat every year, and this year is no exception.I think we have an exceptional staff which includes pastor Dave Rowe of the HWS who will be organizing our games and activitiesas well Lisa Surran of MSBC. Also this year, Alex Burgoine of CEF will be joining us along with several parent chaperones. I think it will be a great time and I hopethe students are as excited for it as much as I am.

Have a great summer! (06/03/2010)

Have a great summer everyone! Don't forget to keep up with your daily devotions and regular prayer times. Stay tuned for information regarding fall retreat.
God Bless

The End is Near! (05/24/2010)

Wow! Where did the time go? It is that time again to wrap up another year as students prepare for final exams and end of the year class parties. The science finals are on the following days:
Wednesday (May 26th) : Chemistry (grade 11)
Physical Science (grade 9)

Friday (May 28th) : Biology (grade 10)

The Jr. class end of the year party will be at Gabe's camp on Mattawamkeag lake Friday June 4th. I need each students to bring in various food items including hot-dogs, buns, paper plates and cups, chips, desserts, and drinks. There will be a sign-up list in the back of my room. I look forward to a great ending to a good school year.

Bike-a-thon (05/04/2010)

I would just like to take a moment to encourage our high school students to get involved in bike-a-thon this year. I know after many years of fundraising and biking the bike-a-thon is not as fun as it used to be. But I have noticed that when students really get behind something (like spirit week) amazing things can happen. Bike-a-thon is more than having fun and winning prizes, it about supporting your school and the mission of GHCA. I know most of the students at our school are willing to help members of the community and some have even gone into the world through various projects and mission trips. I have to wonder why it is so difficult to help our own school family. Please take a moment this week and register for bike-a-thon, or the amazing race. Most of you already have a fundraising network in place from previous years, so don't be shy about asking them again. Your efforts will be appreciated.

The final push (04/14/2010)

I cannot believe how quickly this year has gone. It is already spring and the weather is beautiful, the dairy bar is open, and spring sports are fully underway. The last time I had such a short winter, I lived in Florida. There are only six more weeks of school and it seems like I have so much information yet to cover. I know it is easy to "let up" this time of year, but let me encourage all of my students to keep pushing through to the end. A trip to the dairy bar may sound like more fun than studying for a chemistry test, but the chemistry test is more important. Lets plan to finish strong and then we can all take a well deserved rest when summer vacation starts!

Spirit Week Recap (03/22/2010)

I just wanted to take a moment to recap the events of spirit week. The wild and crazy week started on March 12 with school spirit day in the morning and a volleyball tournament in the afternoon. The week continued on Monday with hall decoration judging as well as class color day. The afternoon was filled with the dodge ball tournament along with a variety of relay races and food contest. Tuesday was class theme day in the morning and various contest in the afternoon including trivia. The seniors were the overall winners of spirit week with the juniors following closely behind in second place. The sophomores and freshmen finished in third and fourth place respectively. The tubing activity scheduled for Wednesday was canceled due to a lack of snow, but was replaced with other activities including bowling and lunch at Pizza Hut. I would like to take a moment to thank everyone who helped make spirit week a success. A special thanks to pastor Dave Rowe for his help in organizing many of the afternoon games and races.

Spirit Week Dress Code (03/09/2010)

In an effort to allow students to have fun and have some creative freedoms during spirit week and yet stay withing the boundaries of appropriateness and modesty, I have developed some spirit week dress code guidelines.

* Shorts are not allowed unless they have tights or leggings on underneath.
* Tight or immodest clothing of any variety will not be allowed.
* Jeans that are clean and neat may be worn.
* Jeans that are ripped, torn, or full of holes my not be worn.
* Students that do not participate in spirit week must wear regular dress code clothing.
* Students may change into appropriate gym clothing after lunch.
* If you are not sure if something is appropriate or modest, ask a teacher ahead of time.
Don't wait for a teacher to ask you to change clothes.

Spirit Week (03/03/2010)

Believe it or not it is almost time for spirit week at GHCA. This is one of the craziest and most fun weeks of the year. Spirit week will begin on Friday, March 12th and conclude on Wednesday, March 17th. Each grade will be choosing a color and theme to represent their identity. Some of the activities planned for this time include dodgeball, volleyball, trivia, and food eating challenges. This year we also have a few "surprise" events. Each grade will earn points depending on how they do with each activity. They also earn points based on creativity and class unity. We will also be including the elementary students in the different themes and decorations. The
schedule for the week is as follows:

Friday: School Pride Day (wear school colors and spirit clothes)
Saturday: High School Banquet (6:00 pm. @ HWC)
Monday: Class Color Day (wear your class color)
Tuesday: Class Theme Day (dress up as your chosen theme)
Wednesday: Tubing @ Big Rock (leave ghca @ 8:30am. and return by 2:00pm. Cost $10.00)

Class Colors and Theme are as follows:

Grade 12: Black and Toyland
Grade 11: Blue and Babies
Grade 10: Red and Injury(fake)
Grade 9: Green and Ninjas
Grade 8: White and Sports
Grade 7: Purple and Mythical Creatures

Senior Bible Rough Draft (02/12/2010)

Just a reminder to you Seniors that the rough draft of your Bible paper is due February 25. Have a great week off, but do spend some gathering information for your paper.

Mid-year check-up (02/01/2010)

We have reached the half-way point of the school year (Where does the
time go?) and I just want to remind students to remain diligent with
their studies and with their behavior. February is a fairly light
month of school with the teacher professional development trip and
vacation week and added to the month are basketball playoffs. This
is a recipe for letting grades and attitudes slip. Let me encourage
you not to lose focus on the primary purpose of school, to get an
education. Keep working hard and doing your best. Spring will be
here before you know it.
