Chloe Marie Bates was diagnosed with Langerhan's Cell Histiocytosis on May 11, 2010 at the age of 9 months old. We were told Chloe would need a year's worth of Chemo treatments and there would be a lot of ups and downs. We were also told that with Histiocytosis it can move within the body and affect the organs. We had never heard of Langerhan's Cell Histiocytosis but we would soon learn more than we really wanted to know. Her chemo treatments began on May 24th, and we are now going to Bangor weekly for treatments, blood work, and physical therapy.

swing of things this week. Please email to let me know you have read
the following information.
Colonial Day
After speaking with some
of you, I have decided to have Colonial Day May 14.

Please have
your child come in costume and be prepared to give a demonstration of
their trade. The lunch that day will consist of the recipes they
have found online here at school. They will be bringing those to school
in the morning,
so please help them prepare the dish they have selected.
There will be a sign-up sheet outside of the classroom
door for you to choose the time your child will do their presentations.
You are asked to come watch them as this is a very special day. I am
so excited to see their costumes and watch them reenact their trade.20
And well the food...YUMMY!
Carter
As a class, we have discussed
Carter's reunion with our Savior a lot this week. We are rejoicing that
he is pain free, but are also praying for his family to receive comfort
during this difficult time. We have decided to make cards for Jeremy
and Wanda and will be sending them next week. If any of you would like
to make donations in honor of Carter to Hometown Heroes or CureSearch
National
Childhood Cancer Foundation, please send them with your child.
We will put them inside your child's card and send them all together.
Stanford
Achievement Testing
Next week we will be giving the Standford Achievement Tests.20
This will be the first year your child will participate in these, so I
want to give you some hints to make this testing go well. Please have
your child bring two #2 Pencils to school Monday. Many of them are
using pencils without great erasers or ones that are very short. Water
bottles are also recommended so they may get a drink in between the
tests without needing to go out into the hallway. Most
importantly...PLEASE have your child get extra sleep! These tests
are very demanding and I want them to perform well. I use these tests
to determine how prepared your child is for third grade, and I go over
the results with Mrs. Hemingway. These also inform us how well our
curriculum is preparing them and how well I have prepared them with my
teaching.
Reward Party

Our class will be having a party this August for those
who have one or less corrections on their seatwork pages. When I
correct your child's five pages, if they have one little correction
or no corrections they earn a star for the board. Those students
will then receive an invitation in the mail for a pool party at my
house this summer. Once they earn a star, they can then earn a tally
each day they achieve the same goal for corrections. Five tallies will
allow them to come to Houlton Farms Dairy Bar with me to get an ice
cream. We will be doing extra work for the remainder of the school year
to be sure to get through the curriculum, so I find this party helps
them to remain diligent and not to hurry through their work.
Picnic
Day
Once again we will be going to the Carlton Civic Center pool
for picnic day. On June 3, we will be having our awards and then
leaving right from the church to head across the border. We will be
swimming from 9:30-11:00 and then going to the playground for a picnic
lunch. After lunch, the students will enjoy an afternoon at the
playground for one last fun-filled day with their classmates (and
teacher). I would like as many of you to join us as possible to help
with supervision of the pool. A field trip notice will be sent home as
the date approaches.
Well, I guess that is it for this week. If
you have any questions, please contact me.
The following are the games and recipes each child has chosen:
You may use any recipe to help your child prepare the food they chose.

Grandparent's Day
Monday, April 12 will be Grandparent's Day. Our class will be inviting our grandparents to be in our classroom from 9-10. We will be having a story, craft, and snack. The invitations will be going out this week, so please inform me how many you will need. If your child does not have a grandparent in the area, they may choose to have someone else join them.
Spring Concert
The spring concert will be this Thursday at 6:00. Please have your child there by 5:50. Dresses or skirts for girls and ties for boys will be necessary. I cannot wait for another fun-filled evening of listening to our children praise our Lord and Savior through a night of music!
Colonial Day
Students are very excited about Colonial Day, and we will be doing a lot of activities throughout the next two weeks to get ready for this special event. The date is still not cemented yet due to me being able to see how much they are accomplishing. I do not want this to drag on, but I also do not want them to feel so rushed that is creates unwarranted stress for the students and for the parents. At this stage I would like the following to be accomplished. Listed behind each step will be an (H) for home or an (S) for school. This will indicate where they should be working on them.

Webquest/Our America
I am sure that many of you have heard of our new webquest, so I would like to clarify the details! The students are studying Colonial America and the differences between now and then. They have gone onto Google and searched for names of that time period and have now taken on new names. They have also chosen a trade and will be researching that trade. Each of them will have to do enough research to become that person for a day. They will dress as their character and will give an oral presentation of their trade.
Each student will also print out a recipe and a game for their character. As part of our “Colonial Day”, we will eat lunch composed of all their recipes and play the games of that time period.
The following is a list of each child and his/her trade. You may look up the dress or any other detail to help them with their trade demonstration. I will let you know the date of our “Colonial Day” as the students get closer to compiling all of their research. If you have any questions, please contact me.

Thank You
Thank you for all the prayers and messages for Kalle. They made her smile even through the harder parts of her hospital stay. Please keep praying that the doctors find out the cause for her temperature to still be high. She is resting at home, but still not allowed to be at school yet.
Spirit Week
This year the JH/HS has included elementary in their spirit week. Each JH/HS class has been teamed with an elementary class and will be helping them earn points. The schedule starting tomorrow will be as follows:
Friday: School Pride Day -Wear school colors and spirit clothes.

Color Day- We are white.
