Teacher Feature

Learn more about GHCA's Faculty as Mr. Zimmerman Interviews each teacher

About the "Teacher Feature"

The Teacher Feature is designed to acquaint you with "another side" of our Academy teachers in addition to their professional lives. Each month, an interview and a few photo clips of a teacher will appear in the Teacher Feature. We have great people serving here at the Academy, and we want you to get to know and appreciate them. - Mr. Zimmerman

Mr. Lance Little

What do you do for fun?

When I have time, I ride my bike or play basketball. Sometimes I enjoy kicking the brain into neutral and watching an action movie. As a first year teacher, school work is a priority. I love to play games and have company. I am energized by talking to local pastors to hear their thoughts and learn what I can. Traveling to places like Japan is fast coming a strong interest.

What books or books have you recently read?

Mostly theology books. Currently, I am enjoying an easier read, Life in the Spirit, by Dr. Martin Lloyd-Jones. On the novel side, I also enjoy John Grisham's writings. David Baldacci's book, Total Control, about a company manipulating the lives of its employees, is among my latest reads.

How did you spend the summer?

I worked at Leon Little and sons (I'm one of the sons). This changing jobs is in the hands of God. This upcoming summer, with my children and a few Academy students, I will head to Japan on a three week missions trip. There, we will help other missionaries produce devotional materials and prepare Sunday school curricula. We will be involved with churches and teaching of English.

Of what church are you a member and in what ministries do you participate?

At Hodgdon Baptist Church, I have taught adult Sunday school off and on for twenty years. At one time I was skeptical of the Gideons, but through becoming a part of their ministry, I have the joy of spreading the gospel through simply passing out Bibles. From there, it's up to the Holy Spirit. It is such a joy to explain that to people.

Do you have a life verse? Why have you adopted it?

I have never really adopted a life verse, but a pair of verses that have become very special to me are Isaiah 43:18-19. They speak to me and my fiancee, Tomi Shirai, about the fact that it is God who brought us together, and it is God who will bless us. God is amazing.

What have you done recently to better yourself professionally?

This is my first year teaching. Every day I get up knowing there is something new for me through the students, the staff or a parent. I have much to learn.

What makes you want to get up in the morning?

I enjoy teaching and the students very much. At this point, my primary motivation for getting up is knowing I am doing what God wants me to do; I know he is going to show me something new about Himself or me every day.

What do you like about GHCA?

I like the students. It is my privilege to impart a little of what God has shown me to to these young people. Of course, I like the staff too. God has assembled a wonderful group of people to serve Him here at the Academy. I also like the fact that the school's mission is to train young people in a biblical world view so that they can positively impact their community, their country and their world.

If you could design your dream school, what would it look like?

The building is not as important as the student. A building teeming with young people greedy to learn stimulates me. Students who hunger for knowledge and have the will to achieve inspires me to dig a little deeper as a teacher.
